Physical gold is gold held in its tangible form: bullion bars, minted coins, or jewelry. Unlike a bank deposit or fund, physical gold has no counterparty risk — its value does not depend on any institution's ability to pay. The return on physical gold is derived from price appreciation: if the price of gold rises, your gold becomes more valuable.
Gold is priced internationally in US dollars per troy ounce (XAU/USD) and must be converted to EGP using the prevailing exchange rate. In Egypt, gold is sold by weight in grams. Carats refer to purity: 24k is pure gold, 21k is 87.5% gold (the most common for jewelry in Egypt), and 18k is 75% gold.
